Women in Kentucky are still in the RED!!!
On Tuesday, April 20, 2010 thousands of women from across the United States will join in a national day of action against unfair pay called Equal Pay Day. On a national level, women are paid only .77cents* for every dollar a man is paid. In Kentucky, women are paid just .74 cents. (*According to the U.S. Census Bureau.)
The wage gap isn’t just a women’s issue. Equal pay for women raises family income and the whole family benefits. Nationwide, working families lose $200 billion of income annually to the wage gap. Pay inequity penalizes families especially during times of economic hardship so we must address it while trying to boost the economy.
Men, women and children are invited to join us by wearing red on Tuesday, April 20 to symbolize that women are still in the red on pay equity. For a list on how to get more involved view this PDF or visit www.women.ky.gov to learn more about pay equity.
Strategic Planning Kick-Off
W4W Board Members, Nikki Jackson, Meredith Loeb, Lopa Mehrotra, Sharell Sandvoss, and Shirley Willihnganz have joined the W4W Strategic Planning Committee along with community leaders Gabriela Alcalde, Carolyn Gatz and Doug Stegner to help guide W4W’s mission and set priorities for the next five years. The strategic planning process has been divided into three phases including:
Phase I – (Research and Root Causes) Update Benchmark 2000 statistics on local women, conduct a trend analysis, and explore root causes. Phase II – (Alignment and Community Engagement) Refine our focus based on the research conducted, revisit the W4W vision, mission, belief statement and guiding principles based on findings, and develop goals and key objectives. Phase III – (Implementation) The W4W Board of Directors will develop strategies to measure goals and evaluate future benchmarks as well as develop an operation plan that is inspirational and actionable.
We are inviting the W4W network to help us create a plan of progress for our community. If you would like to share any thoughts, ideas or advice, please contact Ann L. Coffey at 561-8060 ext. 217 or ann@w4w.org.
